Press Release – For Immediate Release

Thursday, January 23, 2014. KELOWNA, BC.
Willowstone Academy is the new name of First Lutheran Christian School. The independent preschool and elementary school is re-branding for the purpose of aligning the school’s values and vision with its name and brand.

First Lutheran Christian School opened its doors to 5 students in September of 1994. Over the course of the next two decades the school transformed from a traditional parochial school to an innovative and forward-thinking learning community. Now located in a spacious, modern facility in the Lower Mission, the vision is to be a “school of excellence and distinction founded in faith.”

While the core remains, the school has become intently focused on discovering what it takes to educate children
in the 21st Century through their formative years; equipping them for a lifetime of success – emotionally, spiritually, socially, physically and academically.

As the school continues to grow, the ideas of holistic and personalized education, critical and creative thinking, and technology are all core themes embedded into the everyday, inner workings of school life.

“Digging deeper for truth and meaning, acquiring academic competencies, inviting exploration into a meaningful spiritual life, and taking time to cultivate social and physical well-being is the recipe for authentic holistic education,” explains Chief Learning Officer, Karine Veldhoen. “Wrapping it up with educators who are doggedly dedicated to inspiring and challenging students in a loving and supportive environment is what makes us a learning community unlike any other.”

Willowstone Academy is venturing forth with a bold view on education as it strives to prepare children for a future that is very different from today’s world.

“We are a community ‘learning forward’ to challenge the status quo. The face of education is changing rapidly and we have positioned ourselves with great care and intention to lead that change,” explains Veldhoen. “We believe in the radical idea that we can equip our students and they will move mountains!”

Willowstone Academy offers high-calibre learning with emphasis on holistic, personalized attention in an intimate classroom environment. The school serves families with children ages 30 months – grade 7 with year-round seamless education and care. Families can expect the unique needs of the individual child to be met and nurtured in a challenging and rigorous setting designed to impart a sense of worthiness and call forth the leaders of tomorrow.

Public registration for all programs at Willowstone Academy begins February 3, 2014. For more information on what it means to ‘learn forward’ or to book a private tour, please visit www.willowstoneacademy.com or call (250)764-3111.
